Isles

A cunning descriptor of floating chunks of soil.

'Isle' is the title given to an island deemed important enough by the Council of Arathi to have earned it, for various reasons, including:

The above example Isles are also known as the Main Isles, thanks to their large influence on the world of Keltan. While a majority of the influence is religious or economic, one is included due to the reputation it has been given by the Church of the Three. There is one Isle that has not been officially sanctioned by the Council of Arathi, but it has achieved significant renown with the people of Keltan and has recieved the unofficial title. I refer to Verine, a near-mythical Isle that even now is the subject of many debates; the major topic is whether it actually exists.

The Isle from which you come has a large affect on your reputation abroad. People from Arathi, for instance, tend to regard strangers with suspicion and disdain, considering themselves to be above others as a result of their vast wealth. Whereas Olthomen happily welcome strangers onto their island and into their homes, although this may be just to get their hands into your purse.

Your home Isle also is a critical part of your name. The traditional format of names is as follows:

  • First Name - Father's Last Name - Home Isle.
  • Stott Sevidos Olthoman.

If, in the uncommon circumstance that you do not have a home Isle to speak of, or you can't remember your parents, you instead would use the title Heldidos, after giving your first name. If you don't have a first name, well, suck it up and be creative.
