World Checklist
This area is a result of a checklist found at Writer's Resource Center.
- Is the New World predominantly like the one we currently live in? Is it different? How is it different?
The world of Keltan is drastically different than that of the one we currently live in. The reason for this is that due to a gross malfunction of the SIVANOS computer system upon it's activation (reminiscent of SkyNet), whereupon it and the technology it was built to control (the Progenerators) went bonkers. SIVANOS was created to control drastically altering climates through gravitational manipulation, but the malfunction cause giant chunks of earth to rise up into the air. As a result, water is in low supply, as the oceans fell between the rising chunks of earth and cooled the core of the planet. Fresh water is common on the larger isles, and due to the vast casualties inflicted by The Shattering, what little water remains has been suitable. It's estimated that over 99% of the world was killed by the massive earthquakes and flood of natural disasters that resulted from the activation of SIVANOS.
The great spread of iron as a result of the dramatically shifting earth threw up great clouds of the stuff, which is held aloft by the gravitational field of the Progenitors. This does not mean that one could walk off the isles and survive; a majority of the power of the Progenitors goes towards holding the land aloft, and it will merely ignore you and let you fall. You would merely fall through the clouds of dust (known as the Sands) and eventually land in the great oceans beneath the Sands. However, you would likely either die from the impact of landing on the water, or drowning in the water. There is no soil there. There is, however, a large tunnel created that leans to the SIVANOS mainframe. This is a remnant of the path used to travel to it before its' eventual malfunction.
- What is the environment like on your New World? Is the air quality good? Is the air polluted? Is there an Ozone layer? Do civilizations live in protected environments? How are these environments constructed? How are these environments controlled?
The environment is rather similar to what it is currently. Each Isle, however, has it's own developed ecosystem thanks to the cataclysm that destroyed a terms of air quality, it is significantly better then it was before the Splitting. Due to the massive disasters that destroyed large parts of the world, the grand majority of the previous technology that had caused so much of the pollution were destroyed, and those that survived were destroyed by people in the Antitech Riots in a fit of rage against what they considered to be the cause of their problems. Therefore, due to vast openess of space and the limited amount of people, the only source of air pollution are very small fires.
- Is there water on your world?
Yes, there is. However, the vast majority of it is unknown to the people as it is hidden beneath the Sands. All the oceans flooded beneath the rising earth and cooled the core, leaving a massive ball of water beneath the everpresent hanging iron clouds. There has been theories as to the presence of water beneath teh Sands; those who persist in this theory in the Isles above consistently point to the Sheffeld Test, where a specially made basket and a massive quantity of rope were dangled from the edge of one of the smaller United Isles. Although it took many days, and was considered madness by a majority of the "world", it was a great shock when the basket was pulled up and was found to contain a decent amount of salty water.
- How does the sun rise? How does it set? In fact, is there a sun?
Yes, the sun still exists. Quite happily, as well. The earth remains, basically, in the same orbit. However, instead of a large single mass it is now a huge cloud of chunks. Sun still rises, and the land still spins. The reason for this is that not all critical functions of SIVANOS went awry; the central system still controls basic functions. Namely, the rotation and axis of the Earth remain the same, as well as a general range (a result of the Progenerator's range of influence) that the earth chunks remain within.
This gravitational limit is also why the oxygen remains within the tangled clouds of soil, and not escape away.
- What are the life-sustaining factors of your world?
Err... refer above to the latter part of the previous section.
- What is the nature of your society? For example, is it predominantly agrarian or is it technological? Is it modeled after a real civilization that once lived on this earth? If it is, research everything you can about that civilization. It will help you decide what is similar and what is different. If the world is technological, to what degree?
To be filled in at a later date.
- Is your world contemporary, futuristic or alternatively historical? If it is futuristic, is it far-futuristic or near-futuristic.
Well, this one is sorta hard to explain. It takes place, technically, in the future. However, the world is vastly different, having regressed to a state where modern technology is entirely gone from normal life, and any sign of it is considered blasphemous. As a result, there has been very little in terms of inventions, with a majority of the world coming to more naturalistic ways of going about life.
This later leads to some controversy as to whether bring back the technological lifestyle is a good idea.
- What year does your story take place in?
The Splitting, if we're being specific, takes place in 2341 A.D. However, after the splitting, dates begin being measured with A.S. (After Splitting). So, technically, 2341 A.D. is the same as 0 A.S. Using this as context, the story begins at 1471 A.S., with life very similar to that of those that lived even a millenium before. For Isle of Desolation, it ends at 1474 A.S., and Isle of Destruction starts right after Isle of Desolation ends.
- What calendar does your civilization observe? In fact does it even observe a calendar?
To be filled in at a later date.
- What seasons exist in the realm?
All seasons exist, as the Isles are large enough to support an ecosystem, so therefore they also support weather patterns and traditional seasonal impact. However, the seasons changing is usually very dramatic.
- What is the plant life like in your realm? In fact is there any plant life?

- What is the style of clothing worn?

- What currencies are used?
To be filled in at a later date.
- What mode of transportation is used? If you are inventing one, how does it function? Is it petrol powered? Solar powered? Powered by another source? Describe the source in detail.
To be filled in at a later date.
- Does the military exist in your world? How is the military structured?
To be filled in at a later date.
- What is the hierarchy in the elected officials of the realm? Are there elected officials in the realm? Is it a monarchy? A democracy? Do elders exist in the community? What role do they play? Is there a hierarchy that is adhered to with these individuals?
To be filled in at a later date.
- If you are inventing new races of life forms, be prepared to make detailed notes about their societies as well.
To be filled in at a later date.
- How do people communicate with each other? Is communication verbal?
To be filled in at a later date.
- Are there computers on the world? Are they the same as here?
To be filled in at a later date.
- Do people read and write?
To be filled in at a later date.
Telepathy does not exist in a natural sense. However, the transmission of thoughts through technology was achieved in approximately 2268 A.D. by Dr Thomas Valhoun, a scientist that also developed one of the key technologies of the Progenerators. Namely, what he developed was the Manipulator, a key component of any machine that seeks to control and shape the forces of gravity.
